This recipe is a sweet treat for the fall and will have your whole rig smelling full of warm cinnamon swirls. This easy skillet dessert is a fall favorite because it is minimal and quick to make yet full of flavor. Using seasonal pears and cranberries with this dish makes it a sweet and tart take on the classic apple crisp. So grab a cozy blanket, light a soothing candle, find a new flick to watch, and have a bowl of this one-pan skillet crumble. My favorite way to serve this dish is with a scoop of vanilla ice cream (if you have a freezer in your rig) otherwise it goes great just by itself as well.
3 ripe medium pears
⅓ dried cranberries or whole cranberries
¼ cup sugar
½ teaspoon of ground cinnamon
¼ teaspoon of ground nutmeg (optional)
Pinch of salt
1 tablespoon of butter
¼ cup pecans (optional)
For the Crumble Topping
2 tablespoons butter
½ teaspoon cinnamon
¼ cup brown sugar
1 cup of plain granola or whole rolled oats
½ teaspoon of course sea salt (or regular sea salt)
In a medium bowl toss the pears, cranberries, sugar, cinnamon, and optional nutmeg and pecans. Place the butter in a 9 in cast iron skillet and put over medium heat until butter is melted. Pour in fruit mixture and cover until pears are tender, about 15-20 minutes stirring occasionally.
For the topping mix melted butter with cinnamon, sugar, and salt then add the granola or rolled oats. Cover and cook for another 5 minutes. For a crispy version if you have an available oven, bake at 400 for about 5 to 10 minutes till the oats are brown. Serve warm and enjoy!
