Meet the host

Springville, CA

Operational dog rescue. The rescue dogs and I thank you for supporting them by staying here at Kokopelli Moon Rescue. We save as many as we can until they all have a home... Campers come back to a peaceful, healing place, home to rescue dogs who are convalescing so they can find their forever homes.

The property was formally a tangerine orchard. There are only a few tangerine trees left; however, campers can find lots of different fruit trees and vines producing year-around on the property. Early apricots, cherries, and grapes give way to tangerines, oranges, lemons, grapefruit, pomegranates, and pomelos in the fall.

In order to raise funds to provide medical attention, food, vaccinations, and/or spay/neuter for the dogs (and the occasional cat, tortoise, bird, possum, calf, etc.), I paint items with my "doodles" and have other items listed on Etsy under Kokopelli Moon. I have recent projects on site.

It's a lot of work to keep up with the property and kennel maintenance. We depend on volunteers to help, but it’s hard to find folks who can help. We have several kennels and fenced areas; and to date have rescued and re-homed over 650 dogs. Our main mission is to save those who have been injured, abandoned, and have special needs. Some of our dogs have become service dogs and comfort dogs; one, Mr Harold (aka Chance} is now a mascot for a disabled children's school. He even has his own business card as a "Canine Ambassador". We work closely with The Little Red Dog Rescue out of Orange County, and several rescue organizations in the Bay Area. We work with many, many rescue angels to save dogs from high-kill shelters and work as a team of drivers and pilots to get them veterinary assistance and into forever homes across the country.

Campers can interact with the rescue dogs if they so choose, helping to socialize them in order to make their next journey much easier, just be sure to ask before approaching any dogs. We always accept donations and can provide a receipt for your taxes. The things we need most include paper towels, laundry detergent, puppy pads, crate blankets/old towels, and of course corn/soy/wheat/gluten-free dog food and treats, or help with spay/neuter/vaccinations/worming/vetting. Anything helps... especially when you choose to camp here with us. We look forward to hosting you. Safe journeys and please visit us!

Our address is exactly 1 mile above the River Island Golf Course. Please note: we just got cell coverage!! Yay!!! I run an extension cord to the campsites so that you can charge your phones. AT&T finally put up a tower, so we have cell coverage now! Groceries and other supplies are available at the Eagle Feather Trading Post 4 miles west of us, or at Gifford's Market 5 miles west of us in the town of Springville.

There are several restaurants in town, as well; however, the sidewalks curl up about 8:30 or 9:00 p.m. The famous Springville Rodeo happens at the end of April. The Apple Festival happens the third weekend in October, and is very popular. There are typically many other festivities and events happening in the area year-round. We've added ladder games and nets for badmitton and volleyball. We also have kiddie pools!
