The Geminids are usually one of the best meteor showers of the year, capable of producing 150 or more meteors per hour at a dark site. Just find a place that is away from light pollution and around 2 am meteors will fall from the sky.
Dec. 30 - Jan. 2
This is a gathering of nomads in Borrego Springs, CA coming to gather to burn the wooden van effigy. There is a potluck, a talent show, and the burning of the van on the first night.
